So much for train strikes not affecting tourism. Trains today from Pau to Toulouse, and from Toulouse to Albi are totally canceled (like the events in SNL's Space Olympics). My 9:52 train departure is now a 1:40 p.m. bus departure from Pau. Who knows if there'll be seats (the SNCF person didn't give seat assignments, only departure times).
Assuming there is a bus, that there are seats, and that I'm able to connect to another bus in Toulouse, I could theoretically be in Albi by 7:20 p.m. tonight. Why I doubt that's going to happen: everyone who had planned to ride the train will be on those buses. Is SNCF adding buses to deal with that? We'll see, but I suspect not.
But hey, long live the strikes. I'm a union dues paying member of SEIU bargaining unit 1000, so I suffer in solidarity. If you find me sleeping in a field in the French countryside, know that I did it for labor.
