I'm heading to Osaka next week to tour the heart of Japanese civilization with my daughter. Along the way, I'll be researching "youkai" (妖怪), goddess Izanami, and the tea ceremony. For the flight, I've picked up a copy of Viet Thanh Nguyen's "The Sympathizer."
